Colonial map of the area extending from Mount Sturgeon in the north to Warrnambool in the south, Eumerall in the west and Hexham in the east.
John Sands (1818 - 1873)
In 1837 Sands came to Sydney for health reasons and with stationery valued at £500 he set up business in George Street. In 1848 he took over a shop front next to the General Post Office. By 1870 as stationers, booksellers, printers and account book manufacturers the firm was one of the largest of its kind in Australia and in that year won prizes for printing and book production at the Inter Colonial Exhibition in Sydney.
