Jan Commelin (1629-1692)
Jan Commelin was a medical doctor and the Director of Botany at the Amsterdam Hortus Medicus . From Horti Medici Amstelodamensis Rariorum , in which Commelin classified plants that were sent to him by the Dutch East India Company. The series described over 360 species from Africa, the Americas and Asia. An important illustration by one of the most important early botanists.
