Bayliss may be regarded as one of the leading Australian photographers of the c1870s-80s. Born in England in 1850, at the age of sixteen he was apprenticed to Henry Merlin. Bayliss is well known for the largest wetplate photographic panoramas produced in the c19th for his patron Bernard Holterman. Bayliss died at age 47.
