1822 RARE THEATRE ROYAL HAND BILL The second theatre on the site where the Theatre Royal now stands in Hawkins St Dublin, was the 2,000 seat Albany New Theatre which opened in January 1821. In August of that year George IV attended a performance at the Albany and consequently the owners were granted a patent allowing them to use the name, Theatre Royal.
