The Depot General de la Marine, was in the same way as the English Hydrographic Office, regularly issuing updated versions of important charts with updated information for the benefit of mariners and to facilitate trade. It used charts made on a number the major French voyages of the late C18th and Cearly C19th including; Vancouver, Dentrecasteaux, Baudin, Freycinet (Uranie) and Dumont Durville, and Duperrey.

This chart was originally issued in Voyage au pole Sud et, dans l’Oceanie execute par ordre du roi sur les Corvettes l’Astrolabe et la Zelee pendant les annees 1837-1838-1839-1840 sous les commandement de M.J. Dumont-D’Urville Capitaine de Vaisseau. Atlas hydrographique par M.C.A. Vincendon-Dumoulin. [France] : Au Depot general de la marine, 1847 and then reissued with updates by the Depot General de la Marine, in the same way that the English Hydrographic office issued updated versions of Matthew Flinders charts.
