Sir William Newzam Prior Nicholson (1872-1949) was a painter/illustrator. Nicholson studied at Julian’s, Paris and from 1894 collaborated with his brother-in-law James Pryde on a series of posters and illustrated books. The artists became known as &quotThe Beggarstaff Brothers&quot and were greatly influenced by Toulouse Lautrec. &quotAn Almanac of Twelve Sports&quot is Nicholson’s famous sporting calender. Words in the almanac were written by Rudyard Kipling.
