Description:
A view of Goelegoele castle, Seram. Portuguese missionaries were active there in Seram from the 16th century. Dutch trading posts were opened in the early 17th century. From Wouter Schouten, "Oost-Indische Voyagie", Wouter Schouten 1638-1704 Dutch VOC surgeon on to the East Indies 1658-1665. In 1660 he was present at the Dutch siege of Makassar and visited the other spice islands.
