Biography:

C 1884    Joseph Paxton    

English architect and landscape gardener. In 1832 he was appointed as the Duke of Devonshire’s estate manager where he designed two large greenhouses. These designs were later used as the basis for Crystal Palace. He continued to work on landscape gardening and the laying of parks. He was editor of the Paxton’s Magazine of Botany from which this image is from. He also founded other botanical series.
