Description:

Rare early c.18th world map on Mercator’s Projection showing California as an island and Australia with the discoveries made by Abel Tasman on his two voyages in 1642-44. A prominent decorative title panel comprising two winged female figures standing on either side of a late Baroque architectural frame design. The map includes numerous tracks of historic voyages of exploration including; Magellan, Le Maire, Christopher Columbus, Halley, Dampier, Spilbergen, Abel Tasman etc.
