Rare detailed colonial engraving of Port Macdonnell, at the southern end of the South Australian and Victorian border. The are was first sighted by Lieutenant James Grant, in HMS Lady Nelson on 3 December 1800. In 1860 the area was declared a port and surveyed. It was named after Sir Richard Graves MacDonnell, Governor of South Australia from 1855 to 1862. It became one of Australia’s busiest ports.
