Biography:
Walter Hood Fitch (1817-1892)
Fitch attracted the attention of Sir William Hooker when he became Director of the Kew Gardens in 1841. He stayed there for the next fifty years. Fitch was a quick & extremely industrious artist, his published drawings reached the almost incredible total of 9960. He was the sole draughtsman & lithographer for the Botanical Magazine for forty three years. He was the last of the giants of C19th botanical artists.
