Biography:

Joseph Paxton

Joseph Paxton was an English architect and landscape gardener. In 1832 he was appointed as the Duke of Devonshire’s estate manager where he designed two large greenhouses. These designs were later used as the basis for the Crystal Palace. He continued to work on landscape gardening and the laying of parls. He was the editor of Paxton’s Magazine of Botany from which this image is from. He founded other botanical series.
