The Permanent Bridge was the first covered bridge in America,Philadelphia, it replaced a pontoon bridge hence the reason it was called The Permanent Bridge. Thomas Palmer was the architect. The Upper Ferry bridge was designed by Lewis Wernwag, it was built in 1812 and destroyed by fire in 1838.It was considered a new "wonder of the world" causing much interest.
