Description:

In the Noh play Kato Shigeuji, the military governor of Chikuzen Province in northern Kyushu, becomes disillusioned with the sensual world and seeks spiritual refuge on Mt. Koya, a temple centre on the main island of Japan, Honshu. Although he abandoned his family while his son was still a baby. The son is shown here as a young man dutifully going in search for Shigeuji but ultimately turned away. Inset Ishidomaru approaching the temples of Mount Koya.
