Toyohara Chikanobu was born Hashimoto Naoyoshi, studied under Toyohara Kunichika and changed his name to reflect tradition to was Hashimoto. He usually signed his artwork “Yoshū Chikanobu”. He was one of the most famous masters of bijin-ga,
