Description:
View looking up the Singapore River from South Boat Quay to Presentment Bridge and the Residency on Government Hill, showing an accurately drawn version of Jackson’s Presentment Bridge, the first bridge to be built across the river in 1821. From the voyage account of Captain Cyrille Laplace in La Favorite to the Indes entitled Voyage Autour du Monde. Laplace was instructed to thoroughly explore the Indian Ocean and the route to the Indies via the Strait of Malacca, which runs between Sumatra and Malaysia, into the China Sea.
