View of the statue of Richard Bourke, Governor of New South Wales from 1831 to 1837, situated outside the State Library of New South Wales, Sydney. Unveiled on 11 April 1842, it was the first public statue erected in Australia and was made by the well-known English sculptor Edward Hodges Baily (1788�). Gilks was a London lithographer who worked with his brother Thomas until about 1850 before emigrating to Australia in 1853.
