Fine oil by Sidney Woodward-Smith, an English born artist who emigrated to Australia with his family in 1920. He studied at the Julian Ashton School of Art and early in his career took on his mother&#8217s maiden name. He worked as a commercial artist until his appointment to the Department of Medical Illustration at the University of Sydney. He exhibited at the Australian Art Society annual exhibition in 1927 for the first time at the age of twenty two. By 1934 he had a solo exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery London and again in 1936.
