Description:

View taken from the north shore looking towards Circular Quay and Dawes Point. Often early engravings of Australian landscapes used darker colouring, as the European artists were not accustomed to Australian lighting. In addition, European artists would also illustrate a hybrid of European flora and Australia flora, as European flora was in their realm of experience.

Pierre Eugene Aubert (1789-1847) little known French artist, this image being his only known Australian engraved work.
