Description:

This was the first Australian side to tour England playing one Test at Kennington Oval. England won by 5 wickets. England toured Australia again in 1881-82, playing four Tests in a series that Australia won 2-0.

This scarce engraving is from the original edition of the Illustrated London News which was established by printer and newsagent, Herbert Ingram (1811-1860). The first issue came out in 1842 and it’s success was due to the fact that the stories were usually accompanied by engraved illustrations many of the colonies or topical events of the day.
