Frederick Garling (1806 - 1873)

Garling was a painter and customs officer. Although self taught, he accompanied Stirling as artist to Swan River in 1827. On his return he accepted the position with customs but continued to be a very active colonial artist. He is best known for his marine paintings associated with Sydney Harbour.
