Description:

Scarce colonial engraving of Albury.

THE GOVERNOR OF NEW SOUTH WALES ADDRESSING THE MEETING’.

In the accompanying article on page 14 of the newspaper, NSW governor Lord Loftus was quoted as saying:
‘Gentlemen, in respect to these Australian colonies, peopled by the same race, speaking the same language, possessing the same traditions and aspirations, I cannot believe it possible that there can be any differences or antagonistic principles in their internal policies which should separate them. I rather consider that the iron link which we have had the happiness to rivet today should be the emblem of that union and that the results of that union should be prosperity to all.’

From the original edition of the Illustrated Sydney News.
