Description:
Very rare colonial engraving showing the remains of the Eather families house after the flood.
The Eather family had desperately clung onto the roof of their house in the 1867 Hawkesbury River flood at Windsor. The flood waters which reached almost 20m at Windsor drowned 12 members of the family
On June 21, 1867, brothers Thomas and William Eather and their families sought refuge on the roof of their brother George’s house besides Rickabys Creek in Cornwallis. But before a rescue boat arrived, the house collapsed, sweeping the wives and 10 children away.
