Description:

Superb aquatint by one the best marine artists, showing the Falcon, the yacht Lord Yarborough (1781-1846) had built after he was elected commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron in 1824. The Yacht Club, as the Squadron was first known, was founded at the Thatched House Tavern in St James&#8217s, London, on the 1 June 1815. In 1826, the Club took to organising yacht racing as a principal feature of the annual regatta at Cowes.
