Rare Lionel Lindsay mezzotint with etching, of the Rocks, Sydney, numbered six of the second state of only thirty.

Of the the first State Lindsay only made one proof no other examples are known and of the later third state made in 1936 there is an unknown number.

Lionel Arthur Lindsay (1874 - 1961)

Known as a writer & art administrator, he worked for the "Bulletin." He became well known for his etchings and woodcuts. As a trustee to the NSW Art Gallery he was a major supporter of Dobell over the Joshua Smith controversy. He was knighted in 1941 and is represented in most state collections.
