Finely engraved and detailed world map with the tracks of Captain Cook’s three voyages shown. Australia showing the recently discovered Bass Strait but an incomplette southern coast from Nuyt’s Land to Cape Otway. Charles Smith was a London based map seller who at the time of publishing his, ‘Smith’s New General Atlas Containing Distinct Maps of all Principal Empires Kingdoms, &amp States Throughout the World Carefully Delineated from the best Authorities extant’, was ‘Mapseller extraordinary to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales’. This map if from this atlas which has a publication date on the title page of 1809 where the engraved maps have dates of 1808. Printed on thick Whatman paper.

Charles Smith (1800 - 1852)

Smith was a London based map seller who at the time of publishing his, 'Smith's New General Atlas Containing Distinct Maps of all Principal Empires Kingdoms, & States Throughout the World Carefully Delineated from the best Authorities extant', was 'Map seller extraordinary to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales'.
