Celestial map showing Venus and Mercury as seen from Earth, from, ‘Atlas Coelestis seu Harmonia Macrocosmica’. The map surrounded by superb decorations including two title banners held aloft by pairs of Cupids and the head and shoulders of more cupids. Two smaller spheres at lower right and left have two seated women holding books. The most beautiful of all early celestial atlases and produced in the golden age of Dutch map making. First published in 1661 this is the second state printed in 1708 by Schenk &amp Valk’s with their names added.
