Typus Orbis Terrarum Description de la Terre Universelle. - Antique Map from 1643

Genuine antique
dated:

1643

Description:

Early miniature pre Tasman double hemisphere world map. The southern landmass of Terra Australis Incognita includes the north west of Australia with the named Lochac to Boeach, continuing the error originally included in Fine&#8217s 1532 world map which mistakenly corrupted Marco Polo&#8217s false kingdom of Beach. The Gulf of Carpenteria is named ‘Mare Lanchipol’, a name that appears in a number of early texts.
