Oil of the AHS Centaur (Australian Hospital Ship) leaving Sydney Harbour May 1943 with North Head on the right. It sailed unescorted without patients and although clearly marked as a hospital ship with three crosses on its side, was torpedoed on 14 May 1943 by a Japanese submarine about 50 miles from Brisbane. Of the 332 persons on board, only 64 survived. The wreck was only located in 2009.
