Description:
Early issue of this map of south eastern Australia published after the first (1840) and the second edition (1841) which were engraved by Sidney Hall. From 1844 William Hughes name is shown as the engraver.
This is possibly the third edition of this map and very scarce as we have been unable to trace another example. The difference to the later editions is the treatment of Lake Torrens. In this map it is named Lake Torrens in later editions it is named Torrens Basin as well as the northern reach which is closed and is horse shoe shaped whereas in all the later editions we have examined a hypothetical outline extends to the Stony Desert at the top of the map.
