Friedrich Johann Justin Bertuch (1747-1822)
A successful entrepreneur and a man of the Age of Enlightenment Bertuch had been orphaned at the age of 15 and lived with his uncle. He pursued an education in theology and law and eventually became a publisher for the largest employer in his home town of Weimar. This image is from the first pictorial encyclopedia for children Bilderbuch fur Kinder which was a landmark in educational publishing.
