Description:
Very rare c.18th engraving of aborigines fishing in Port Jackson with a Neoclassical frame border design. Note the misspelling of the word ‘south’ in the title.
This image was first issued in a smaller format without the elaborate border design in 1790, on the title page of John White’s, ‘Journal of a Voyage to new South Wales’, titled ‘View in Port Jackson‘. It was later copied and issued in John Hamilton Moore’s, ‘A New and Complete Collection of Voyages and Travels, with the title changed to, ‘A View in Port Jackson, New South Wales‘, in 1793.
