On 18th July 1801, the Investigator with 88 men and two cats, including the famous Trim set sail. Investigator sighted Cape Leuwin, Western Australia on 6th December 1801 and in February 1802, they entered Spencer’s Gulf, which Flinders named for the second Earl Spencer. Kangaroo Island was also discovered and Flinders landed on the north coast.
