Description:
Beautifully engraved view of a Vietnamese village from the voyage account of Laplace in the La Favorite to the Indes entitled Voyage Autour du Monde.
Laplace was instructed to thoroughly explore the Indian Ocean and the route to the Indies via the Strait of Malacca, between Sumatra and Malaysia, into the China Sea. The drawings were all supervised by De Sainson. The plates in the Album historique are, according to Sabin, ‘perhaps the finest series of plates of any of the picturesque voyages’.
