Description:

Rare lithograph of the Bay of Islands from the account of the French expedition under the command of Dupetit-Thouars in the ship Venus which explored the Pacific. After the Venus’s stay in French Polynesia the expedition arrived in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand on 13/10/38. They stayed there for a month while various excursions were organised, particularly to Maori points of interest, and repair work was carried out on La Manche, a French whaler which had been badly damaged in a storm.
