Description:

Vue Optic of the annual parade of the infantry at Les Sablons, in the estate of the Chteau dela Muette, one of the King’ residences, in the east of Paris, in the Bois de Boulogne. This parade took part at the height of the Seven Years War between France and Britain. The chateau, seen in the background, was entirely rebuilt by Louis XV, who used the residence to entertain his mistresses, including Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry. A small area at Les Sablons would later be granted to Antoine-Augustin Parmentier by Louis XVI to promote the cultivation of the potato, which was banned for human consumption by the French parliament.
