Description:

Irish published satire on the clergy, by J. Sidebotham, of Sackville St, Dublin, copied from Richard Newtown’s print, first published by William Holland, July 1 1794, No. 50, Oxford Street, London.

A plump clergyman stands between a bare-breasted young woman reclining on a sofa and a table laid with a roast sucking pig and a bottle of claret, his eyes are turned to the latter.

Sidebotham was a print publisher, firstly in Dublin and later in London as well. Most of his prints were of caricatures pirated from London satires. He used various versions of his name, on his published caricatures, with the following names appearing; J. Sidebotham, E. Sidebetham, J. Sidebetham, J. Sidebethem and the pseudonym, Yedis (Side reversed).
