Scarce Australian engraving of a wood chopping competition. 

Biography:

Sydney Prior Hall (1842 – 1922)

Hall was a painter, draughtsman and illustrator. He was born in Newmarket and studies under his father Harry Hall the equestrian artist, in addition to studying at the Royal Academy schools. Hall was a popular painter of sport and military subjects. He was a favourite painter of the Royal Family and accompanied Lord Lorne to Canada in 1881.
