Scarce engraving of the wrecked Sorata at Cape Jervis, South Australia.

On the 3 September the P & O steamship Sorata was stranded at Cape Jervis while en route to Melbourne, carrying passengers and cargo. All passengers were landed safely, and some cargo. The Sorata was eventually refloated and towed to Melbourne for repairs.

Carr arrived in Australian in 1867 and travelled widely including WA, SA, NT, VIC, NSW & NZ. He was also a foundation member of the VIC & NSW Academy of Arts. During the latter part of his life he lived in Mosman.
