Rare engraving from the official British Admiralty sanctioned edition of the accounts of Cook’s third and final voyage. All other later copies made of this image by other publishers were unauthorised, usually smaller and inferior in quality.
Webber's Sea Otter drawn at Nootka Sound, April 1778. With the publication of Cook's third voyage account, many Europeans learned of the trade of sea otter pelts between Cook and the west coast and knowing the prices these pelts sold for, soon a trade in these animal pelts was established.
