Beautemps-Beaupre was a French hydrographer, hydrographic engineer and cartographer.
He accompanied the D’Entrecasteaux expedition in search of La Pérouse in 1791, and made a valuable contribution of to the charting of the Pacific. Subsequently he was employed in all of the important hydrographic labours undertaken during the First French Empire and the Bourbon Restoration. He was elected a member of the Académie des sciences in 1810 and was appointed chief hydrographer and keeper of the Dépôt de la Marine (predecessor of the Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service) in 1814.
