Italian painter and engraver of the Baroque period. He is best known for his depictions of ancient Greek vases. Passeri was born in 1645 in Rome and studied with the Italian painter and engraver, Pietro da Cortona. He specialized in reproducing ancient Greek vases and ceramics. He worked with the Vatican Library and produced engravings of many ancient Greek vases. He also created a series of engravings of ancient Greek amphoras, which were inspired by the works of another Italian artist, Francesco Bartolozzi. Passeri’s engravings of ancient Greek vases are highly detailed and often include depictions of mythological figures and scenes. He is considered to be one of the most important engravers of ancient Greek vases of the Baroque period.
