Australian Federation Stereo card of the King Edward VII Arch, Swanston Street, by George Rose, recording the visit of The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York to Melbourne in May 1901, for the Federation celebrations. The King Edward VII Arch was one of eight grand ceremonial arches marking the route to be travelled by the royal carriage on the journey to and from the Exhibition Building.
Biography:
George Rose (1861-1942)
Rose was a Melbourne photographer who started his photographic career around 1880 producing stereoscopic or 3-D images when viewed through a special viewer. He called his business ‘The Rose Stereograph Company’ and he toured the world with his 3-D camera, producing stereographs for the home and overseas markets.
