Mapmaker:
Thomas Robert Brown (1764-1820)
Son of the Edinburgh bookseller James Brown who as in Parliament Close before 1773. Admitted a burges of the city 2 November 1786, described as an angraver. Married Elizabeth Swinton at Canongate Kirk 7 Aug 1789. A member and secretary of teh Edinburgh Booksellers Scoiety 18 November 1790. Brown acted as the Edinburgh agent of John Ainslie’s later maps and William Faden his agent in London. He died at Gayfield Square 7 August 1820, aged fifty six, leaving a personal estate of £2,532. He was succeeded by his apprentice and nephew, William Swinton.
