Description:

Spectacular rare c.18th plan of London printed in 1721 by John Senex (1690-1740) and engraved by the famous London engraver and map maker, Samuel Parker. The map is dedicated to Peter Delme who was an extremely wealthy and influential alderman of London. He was one of the first home owner’s in London’s Grosvenor Square and became Lord Mayor in 1723. With an extensive key  at the bottom of the map listing eighty seven places of interest or landmarks.

John Senex (1690 - 1740)

Born in Ludlow in 1678, then apprenticed to the London bookseller, Robert Clavell, in 1695. Clavell was Master of the Stationers’ Company in 1698. At the end of his apprenticeship in 1702 he begins publishing on his own account. Little is known of his professional life other than that all are of his maps are of the highest standard.

Samuel Parker was an engraver, apprenticed to John Senex in 1710 for seven years and by 1726 was on Sympson's list of the leading engravers in London.
