Early and rare map of Tasmania from Joseph Lycett’s views in New South Wales and Van Diemens Land. Following Macquarie’s tour of inspection of Van Diemen’s Land in 1821 the colony expanded from its original base around Hobart and along the Derwent valley, and began spreading along the rivers of the Launceston area. Settlers also started taking up grants between these two centres.
