Large scale map of Africa which includes a number of tribal names and details the regions of Caffreria and Monomotapa in Southern Africa. The sources of the White and Blue Niles are depicted as two lakes, one in the centre of the continent and one in the northeast. The source of the White Nile, in particular, was to become a point of much interest during the nineteenth century and the exploration into ‘Darkest Africa’ became symbolic of European colonial expansion. Rare folio issue of this map.
