Asiae Nova Delineatio Auctore N. Visscher.

Rare, early issue of Nicolaes Visscher I map titled,  Asiae Nova Delineatio Auctore N. Visscher., published Amsterdam, c. 1657–1659, extending from India in the west, southern Japan in the north and northern Australia in the south. It shows Dutch possessions in the East Indies. Visscher details Dutch discoveries in Australia by Carstensz on Cape York Peninsula in 1623, Tasman’ 1644 discoveries as are Van Colster’ in Arnhem Land in 1623. 

This issue before the addition of the publisher’s privilege (Cum Privilegio Ordin. General. Belgii Foederati) which Visscher I, received  from the States of Holland and West Friesland in July 1677. This impression is also without an engraved publication line or Amsterdam imprint, a feature rarely encountered and suggestive of one of the earliest pulls from the copperplate
