First recorded sighting of the Australian Brush Turkey was made by Sydney Parkinson artist abroad James Cook’s first voyage on the 4th July 1770 and his account;

“…a bird like a Tetrao, having wattles of a fine ultramarine colour, and whose beak and legs were black.”
