Description:

Scarce, c.19th hand coloured detailed engraved birds eye view of Mount Gambier in 1882 taken from an elevated position above the town.

The substantial Mount Gambier Hospital is prominently shown on the elevated ground at right. Built between 1867 and 1869 to designs by the South Australian Government Architect Robert George Thomas, the hospital was constructed in the Italian Gothic style and remained one of the town’s principal landmarks until its demolition in 1971.
